1. Write down the job
Start with the rooms you want cleaned and the tasks that matter most. A regular maintenance visit and a deep clean are different jobs. Note pet hair, delicate surfaces, access restrictions and any rooms that should be left alone.
2. Compare the same scope
Ask each provider to explain what is included and excluded. Inside appliances, windows, laundry and heavy lifting may require separate arrangements. Compare the full price, supplies, equipment, taxes and cancellation terms—not just an hourly rate.
3. Ask how the work is managed
- Who will attend, and how are replacements handled?
- What insurance applies to the work and how can you verify it?
- Which products will be used, and can the provider accommodate surface-care instructions?
- How should you raise a concern or report damage?
4. Prepare for the first visit
Secure valuables and arrange safe access. Share manufacturer care guidance for specialist surfaces and explain any pet arrangements. Do not send keys or entry codes through a public directory form. Agree a secure handover directly with the provider.
5. Review the result together
Walk through the agreed task list when practical. Raise specific concerns promptly and keep the written scope and receipt. Adjust future visits based on what your household actually needs.
